Perceptive, Innovative, Secretive, and Isolated
I have always been inspired by the beauty of difference in all of us and the construct of The Enneagram puts words to the differences. The Enneagram has helped me relate, grow, see blind spots, and love more deeply. We truly are unique hues on a spectrum of humanity and I admire the variety. The function of yellow isn't the same as red, but we need them both the same. My hope is that as you view these portraits, you will see the strengths that we all carry—and when misunderstandings arise, we can all begin to see through the lens of our brothers and sisters.
“Enneagram 5’s are alert, insightful, and curious. They are able to concentrate and focus on developing complex ideas and skills. Independent, innovative, and inventive, they can also become preoccupied with their thoughts and imaginary constructs. They become detached, yet high-strung and intense. . At their Best type 5’s are visionary pioneers, often ahead of their time, and able to see the world in an entirely new way.” - The Enneagram Institute
Here are some Enneagram Type 5’s you may know — Siddartha Gautama Buddha, Albert Einstein, John Nash (A Beautiful Mind), Stephen Hawking, Vincent van Gogh, Friedrich Nietzsche, Stephen King, Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg.
Enneagram 5’s are the ones who will silently lead a people group with their well thought out contributions. These are the people that will read up on a subject until they are well versed, know quirky facts about random subjects and also the type that have a hard time being fully connected to those around them. Because they live through a lens of analyzing this might cause a disconnect between their head and their heart. This is driven by their basic desire to be capable and competent. This type wouldn’t typically view their presence being the thing that’s valued, rather the knowledge and competence they bring to those around them.
The color Black.
In color psychology black means power, authority and higher learning. Black and it holds on to information and objects instead of sharing them with others — black is the presence of all colors. Black color meaning is known to be intimidating and unapproachable, because of the power it radiates. It can prevent two-way communication because of the negative impact.
Jordan is an Enneagram Type 5. He is an intellect, creative and artist. He has open hands and an open mind to help benefit those around him with the knowledge he acquires and executes through his craft.
At their best this type become visionaries, broadly comprehending the world while penetrating it profoundly. Open-minded, take things in whole, in their true context. Make pioneering discoveries and find entirely new ways of doing and perceiving things.
Musician and Songwriter, Sleeping at Last, recently released an Enneagram series depicting each type in song. This project inspired me to create this photo series. I find it so beautiful when we use art to express the individuality of humanity. The lyrics from the song “Five” are written below. This will help you understand the drive to know more, but also the desire in all of us to be connected.
i’m hypnotized by this anomaly. such strange uncharted territory- a white flag waves in the dark between my head and my heart. my armor falls apart, as if i could let myself be seen, even deeply known. like i was already brave enough to let go. and now i want to generously lose this energy that i’ve been hanging onto so desperately. i finally feel the universe expand- it’s hidden in heartbeats, exhales and in the hope of open hands.
